During the three-week program, Vet students can explore the many different Veterinary-related career paths, as well as experience an immersive experience of day to day life at PetSure, including understanding claims, marketing and GapOnlyTM.

Meet Kate

Kate is our first Veterinary Student Intern for 2021 from the University of Sydney. Kate decided to do the program because she is not very familiar with pet insurance and thought that PetSure would be the perfect opportunity to learn more about it.

Q. Hi Kate! Thanks for joining our 2021 PetSure Vet Student Internship Program. Can you start by telling us a little about yourself?

A. I am 23 years old and work as a Veterinary Nurse in a small animal practice. Outside of Vet school I enjoy painting, hiking, and camping. I have a special interest in equine reproductive medicine and racing, as well as wildlife medicine.

Q. What are you hoping to gain from your time at PetSure?

A. I believe pet insurance could be beneficial and am looking forward to this internship to widen my understanding of pet insurance.

Q. What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I absolutely cannot stand sesame seeds, and as a kid I would say I was allergic to avoid having to eat them on bread rolls.

Q. Do you have any pets?

A. I have a rescued domestic shorthair named Cheddar.

Q. What quote or saying do you live by?

A. “Don’t build your passion around your career, build your career around your passion.”

Q. What do you understand pet insurance to be?

A service that pet owners can turn to for financial support, allowing optimal treatment of their pets during dire times.

Q. Do you think pet insurance can help provide better treatment outcomes for pets?

A. Absolutely! I see it every day in practice.

Pet insurance can help by covering a portion of the eligible vet bill if the unexpected happens. Because it is difficult to predict the costs of veterinary care, it can help to have measures in place to help prepare for the unexpected. Check out our partner network and explore our policy tools to find a pet insurance policy.
