Pet parents cut back on spend due to inflationary pressures: PetSure research features in The Guardian

PetSure surveyed 1,000 pet owners about their pet spending habits, and how their expenditure has been impacted by the current economic climate. The data insights were featured in an article published by The Guardian on 16 July, which highlights the changes Australians are making to their spending habits in response to the cost-of-living crisis.

Increasing inflationary pressures have led to a rise in pet surrenders and a decline in adoption rates at animal shelters across Australia. The cost of caring for pets, along with difficulties in finding pet-friendly accommodation, have resulted in shelters operating at full capacity, longer stays for animals, and owners cutting back on pet-related expenses.

PetSure’s Pet Health Monitor 2023 report draws on PetSure claims data to share average treatment costs for common pet health conditions so Aussies can understand and prepare for veterinary costs.
